Gun Control

If I was elected King of America, my policy on gun control would be two part.
  1. It shouldn't be decided at the Federal level.
  2. We don't need gun control, we need ammunition control.
Point 1 assumes that people are basically good and would use their firearms for legitimate purposes such as hunting, sport shooting and self defense, but also that humans frequently exhibit poor judgment.  That said there is a big difference between discharging a firearm in Manhattan (or downtown Dallas, or Los Angeles) and Wyoming.

If you happen to be in Manhattan, and discharge a firearm, there's about a 100% chance that you're going to hit something man made.  In short I'm totally in favor of gun control in an Urban setting.  However, in the vast majority of the United States West of the Appellation Mountains if you're not in a city or it's suburbs there's a good chance that you're an hour or more away from help, and not much has changed in the last 200 years.  You still need to shoot the occasional Mountain Lion, and calling the Police if someone breaks into your house isn't going to get you help in time.  So for me the only grey area is the suburbs, and each one is different so let them decide for themselves.

Point 2 Assumes there are bad people in the world who will do bad things using guns, knives, forks or hammers.  The cold hard truth is there isn't anything we can do to prevent them from doing bad things, all we can do is make it easier to catch them when they do.  So I think there should be serial numbers on bullets to make it easier to track it back to it's source.

Core Beliefs

I've been thinking about doing a blog called "King of America" for a while now.  Mostly because from time to time I get viral eMails of a political nature that I feel are either blatantly untrue or at least horribly misguided.  I'm not a writer by any means (I flunked English composition in High School twice) So bare with me if you're reading, and please enjoy without getting too worked up.

Why "King of America"?  Well, if I stay on topic this will be a blog about my ideas to fix some of the "issues" with government (mostly federal, sometimes local) that everyone always seems to keep complaining about.  My political views tend to be Libertarian leaning toward conservative (but I'll surprise you at times).  Don't worry, I don't expect any of this to actually happen unless one of two things happen: 1. I actually am elected supreme and absolute monarch of America <LOL> or 2. This starts a grass roots movement and we go to a third party system.

Enjoy!
